This is an introductory course on rocket propulsion. The objective of this course is to impart knowledge about rocket propulsion to both UG and PG students. In this course, fundamentals aspects of rocket propulsion namely solid, liquid and hydride rocket engines are to be covered extensively. Besides this, performance of rocket engine and heat transfer aspects of various components are to be covered briefly.

Dr. Debi Prasad Mishra is a professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, India. His areas of research interest include combustion, computational fluid dynamics, atomization, etc. He was conferred with the Indian Oil Golden Jubilee Professional Chair in IIT Kanpur. He was a Visiting Professor in 2002 at the Tokyo-Denki University, Japan. He is the recipient of several awards Some of them are Young Scientist Award, Sir Rajendranath Mookerjee Memorial Award, Samanta Chadrasekhar and Vikash Prerak Sanman, National Design Award in Mechanical Engineering, Excellence in Aerospace Education and etc. He had served as an Assistant Editor, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Elsevier, USA. Besides this, he also serves as an editorial board member of Journal of the Chinese Institute of Engineers, Taylor & Francis, and International Journal of Turbo and Jet engines. Dr. Mishra has six Indian patents and around 218 research papers in refereed Journals and in conference proceedings to his credit. He has authored five textbooks titled “Fundamentals of Combustion”, “Engineering Thermodynamics” and “Gas Turbine Propulsion”, “Experimental Combustion” and “Fundamentals of Rocket Propulsion”. He is also serving as a managing trustee of the International Foundation of Humanistic Education. He is instrumental in making all India level group, Awake Mother India which is involved actively to rejuvenate our Mother land. He is working to revitalize and popularize the ancient Indian science and technology heritage among youth. He has published two books, “Glimpses of Ancient Indian Science and Technology” and “Forays into Ancient Indian Science and Technology”. Over last 7 years, he has delivered several lectures on ancient Indian science & technology and culture & tradition to more than 45, 000 students across India. In this last year itself, he has interacted with more than 18, 000 students and motivated them to work for rejuvenating our glorious Mother India

Course certificate

  • The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
  • The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
  • Date and Time of Exams: 16 November 2019, Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.
  • Registration url: Announcements will be made when the registration form is open for registrations.
  • The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.
  • Please check the form for more details on the cities where the exams will be held, the conditions you agree to when you fill the form etc.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE
  • Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 8 assignments out of the total 12 assignments given in the course. 
  • Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100
  • Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75
  • If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.
  • Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Kanpur. It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.
  • Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies are being discontinued from July 2019 semester and will not be dispatched
