Structure is an integral part of designing Architecture since the primitive age. Starting from the Stonehenge to the creation of the world’s tallest tower in recent times, structure and its designed form presented an excellent Architecture to experience, appreciate and also to fulfill the functions for which they are created. Therefore, the present course has an extreme importance to create interest among the students, architects and engineers as well to learn the relationship between Structure, Form, and Architecture to make a synergy between them and make the space creation structurally strong, stable, functionally optimized and aesthetically pleasant Architecture. The course will highlight the relationship between structure, form and architecture, basic of structural forms, their properties, material used, pros and cons to make upon a decision to select the appropriate form for the architectural design consideration. The course also includes suitable case studies from various parts of the world along with a few demonstrations with study model experiments which may help participants/students to clear their doubts and help them in designing the assignments with a better grip.
INTENDED AUDIENCE : This course would be useful for the students pursuing B.Arch, M.Arch and B.Tech/BE Civil Engineering

Instructor bio

Prof. Shubhajit Sadhukhan

IIT Roorkee
Dr. Shubhajit Sadhukhan is presently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture & Planning at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. Earlier he served National Institute of Technology Patna for four and half years as Assistant Professor in the Department of Architecture. Dr. Sadhukhan received his PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 2017. In 2010, he obtained his Master of Technology (M. Tech) Degree in Infrastructure Design and Management from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and also awarded with the Institute Silver Medal. He completed his Bachelor in Architecture (B. Arch) with Honours in 2008 from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He has exposure in both the fields of Architecture and Transport Infrastructure Facility Planning. He has publications in several international journals of high repute and presented his work at many international conferences. His current research includes urban mobility planning, sustainable transportation and accessibility design and architectural structures.

Course certificate

• The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
• The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
Date and Time of Exams: 29th March 2020, Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.
• Registration url: Announcements will be made when the registration form is open for registrations.
• The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.
• Please check the form for more details on the cities where the exams will be held, the conditions you agree to when you fill the form etc.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE:
• Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 6 assignments out of the total 8 assignments given in the course.
• Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100
• Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75.
• If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.
• Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Roorkee. It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.
• Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
