The Google Cloud Computing Foundations course aims to provide a detailed overview of concepts covering cloud basics, big data, and machine learning and where and how the Google Cloud Platform fits in. The course involves understanding concepts and perform hands-on training (via Qwiklabs platform) to practice the learning. There are 26 labs on Qwiklabs that are part of the course. 

Those enrolling for the course should ideally:

● Have basic IT knowledge and be interested in learning more about Cloud and ML.
● Have competency in at least one language (such as Python, Java).
● Be familiar with the basics of shell scripting, SQL.

Instructor bio

Prof. Soumya Kanti Ghosh

IIT Kharagpur
Prof. Soumya K. Ghosh received the Ph.D. and M.Tech. degrees from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India. Presently, he is a Professor with Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Kharagpur. Before joining IIT Kharagpur, he worked for the Indian Space Research Organization in the area of satellite remote sensing and geographic information systems. He has more than 200 research papers in reputed journals and conference proceedings. His research interests include spatial data science, spatial web services and cloud computing.

Jimmy Tran is a Senior Program Manager within Google Cloud. He got his Bachelor's degree from UC-Berkeley. He has held various positions within Google working on both G Suite and GCP and was at Hewlett-Packard before joining Google.


Sowmya Kannan is the Global Lead for Google Cloud Learning in Higher Education. Sowmya Kannan has a broad range of experience in professional services, product engineering, technical writing, and technical curriculum development. She co-authored The Java Tutorial book at Oracle. As technical lead for application development curriculum at Google Cloud, Sowmya developed Coursera courses related Developing Applications with Google Cloud Platform.

Priyanka Vergadia is an engineer at Google Cloud. Previously she has worked at Akamai Technologies, Intel and Genesys Telecommunications. She creates online learning content on Cloud related topics, her series "Get Cooking in Cloud" and "Deconstructing Chatbots" are available on Google Cloud Youtube Channel. While she is not producing videos, writing blogs or speaking at conferences, she draws and paints.


Seth Vargo is an engineer at Google Cloud. Previously he worked at HashiCorp, Chef Software, CustomInk, and some Pittsburgh-based startups. He is the author of Learning Chef and is passionate about reducing inequality in technology. When he is not writing, working on open source, teaching, or speaking at conferences, Seth advises non-profits.


Evan is a self-proclaimed board game geek, triathlete, data junkie, and big data teacher. He lives in San Jose and once swam from near Alcatraz back to shore. He's a nerd for good data visualizations and enjoys debating how the word .gif is pronounced.


Philipp Maier is a technical curriculum developer at Google with a focus on Cloud Infrastructure and Networking. He got his Master's from Stanford University in Aerospace Engineering where he developed a passion for teaching. In his free time he likes to hike, run, cycle, snowboard, travel and cook.


Alex Hanna is a researcher on the ethical AI team at Google. She holds a MSc and PhD from University of Wisconsin-Madison in sociology.

Course certificate

• The course is free to enroll and learn from. But if you want a certificate, you have to register and write the proctored exam conducted by us in person at any of the designated exam centres.
• The exam is optional for a fee of Rs 1000/- (Rupees one thousand only).
• Date and Time of Exams: 19 December 2020, Morning session 9am to 12 noon; Afternoon Session 2pm to 5pm.
• Registration url: Announcements will be made when the registration form is open for registrations.
• The online registration form has to be filled and the certification exam fee needs to be paid. More details will be made available when the exam registration form is published. If there are any changes, it will be mentioned then.
• Please check the form for more details on the cities where the exams will be held, the conditions you agree to when you fill the form etc.

CRITERIA TO GET A CERTIFICATE:
• Average assignment score = 25% of average of best 6 assignments out of the total 8 assignments
 given in the course. 
• Exam score = 75% of the proctored certification exam score out of 100
• Final score = Average assignment score + Exam score

YOU WILL BE ELIGIBLE FOR A CERTIFICATE ONLY IF AVERAGE ASSIGNMENT SCORE >=10/25 AND EXAM SCORE >= 30/75. 
• If one of the 2 criteria is not met, you will not get the certificate even if the Final score >= 40/100.
• Certificate will have your name, photograph and the score in the final exam with the breakup.It will have the logos of NPTEL and IIT Kharagpur. It will be e-verifiable at nptel.ac.in/noc.
• Only the e-certificate will be made available. Hard copies will not be dispatched.
