 Perspectives on Education: This course is designed to orient the student teachers about the conceptual aspects of education, philosophical and sociological foundations of education. This course offers an overview of the education under colonial rule and in independent India. In the course, the concept of education and its aims and functions will be discussed based on the Indian and western philosophical thoughts. The course is organized around student-teachers to look at, understand, interpret the universal ideas about education, aims, methods, curriculum and teacher taught relationship. The course is discussed the major contributions of great thinkers in India and the world. The course also offers the sociological besis of education and the relationship between education and sociology. The course can be taken by anybody at any level of teacher education and it can help the students to master all the basic aspects of Education. The course is part of approved University Level curriculum for B.Ed. Course in all Indian Universities. The Course content is in tune with the Curriculum of Perspectives on Education spread in first Two semesters and fourth semester of the 2 Year B.Ed. Curriculum as planned by NCTE in the national Level. The course is also designed in a way so as to help the teacher students of Elementary level also. Apart from that the modules included in the Course can be helpful even for the M.Ed. students. 
      The course components detail various aspects of Education, meaning, definitions and concept of education, factors influencing education, Aims and Functions of Education, Agencies of Education, School as an Agency of Education, Educational Functions of the State and Central Government, Free and Compulsory Education, Education of socially backward classes, Constitutional Provisions for Education in India, Philosophy of Education Meaning and Scope, Central teachings in Indian Philosophy, Approaches to Education- Idealism, Naturalism, Pragmatism, Education in Ancient India, Budhist Education in Ancient India, Educational System in medieval India, Education during Colonial Ruling in India, Some Major Education Commissions during the colonial period and Independent India, Great Philosophers of Education, Educational Sociology introduction and theoretical perspectives, Socialisation and Education, Education and Social change. These topics will be covered in 12 weeks with intermediate assignments and will end with the final examination which will take an extra week. This course will enable student teachers to have a wider outlook on the various aspects of education with its strong philosophical and sociological bases. Once a student complete this course, he/ she can surely master the different dimensions of education, its aims and functions with the strong philosophical support.
