Transportation has been an integral part of the tourism industry; transportation links tourists with various tourist attractions. There is a general agreement that tourism expands more when there are better transportation systems like air transportation, railways or by road.

It also talks about airport operations, travel agency, tour operations, which are the integral part of the tourism industry. The course discusses the topics like types of transportation services, such as rail, road, air and waterways in India and travel documents needed to travel abroad.

Transportation needs for tourism promotion and tourism development among others, to be maintenance of the existing roads, construction of more roads/rail track/sea and air transportation, and construction of local airports and enhancement of local flight operations. Moreover, established that the level of security and safety in transportation systems is not bad though tourists consider transportation costs high. Tourism development could be even bigger if more could be done in various elements of transportation systems. It is an important for all its stakeholders to take part to develop tourism in their regions.By considering this after the course completion, the student will be able to:

 Understand the role of transportation services in tourism industry.

 Understand the concept of travel agency and tour operators.

 Identify the important linkages between different types of transportation services to facilitate tourism in India.

 To get an exposure to students to know about civil aviation in India.

 Understand about travel documents such as passport, VISA, health certificate and travel insurance.

Instructor bio

Mr. Srikanth. K. S, currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, PBM Mahajana P.G Center, KRS Road, Metagalli, Mysuru, obtained Bachelor’s degree in arts, Master’s (MTA) in Tourism Administration and P.G Diploma in HRM from the KUDDE of Kuvempu University, Shivamogga. I have passed NET and KSET in tourism administration and my fields of specialization include tour operations, travel agency management. I have more than 10 years of teaching experience.
