Course Objective:
Course Objectives The major objectives are to
  • Promote quality and excellence in ECCE by providing guidelines for practice to promote optimum learning and development of children in their early years
  • Set out the broad pedagogical techniques and assessment plan to be customized to meet the individual needs of the children, the specific setting, linguistic culture and the local community.

Pre-requisites: Prerequistes and intended audience
This course is for students doing their    Post graduation in Home science/Human development/psychology/counseling/social work/literature or any other related fields. The passion towards serving the young children is the most important criteria. The course is targeted for people who intend to start a new preschool/playschool/day-care, or upgrade an existing preschool, or to take up a career as a teacher in preschool, or to improve admission counseling skills or to be trained on the various elements of ECCE. Last but not the least the course will help you the prospective parent in upbringing your child.

Learning Outcomes: Learning outcomes After successful completion of the course the learner will be able to
  • Recognize the foundational and theoretical underpinnings of early care and learning and apply its implication in providing suitable learning environment
  • Understand the types and benefits of early play and analyse the strengths of play-way approach for the holistic development of children
  • Describe the principles of programme planning, collate and identify customized pedagogical techniques and acquire the skill-set in planning and administration of  ECCE centre and
  • Explain the assessment procedure of the child’s development and learning and explore the strategies in promoting smooth and effective transition of the child to the next level of learning.

    Dr. K. Arockia Maraichelvi, Associate Professor, Department of Human Development, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, have 13 years of teaching and research experience. Her area of specializations are Early Childhood Care and Education, Adolescent development and behavior, Life skills and Personality development. She has been awarded Kusuma Young Researcher Award 2009, from Kusuma Trust, London, United Kingdom and International Young Scientist Award 2016, from International Science Community Association. She has been awarded UGC research award for the year 2012-2014. She has been actively involved in development of e-modules for e-PG Home Science in the capacity of Co-Principal Investigator, Paper Coordinator and Content Writer. Two candidates have successfully completed their Ph.D under her guide ship and six are presently working. She has three books to her credit and also published research articles in various International and National Journals. Presently, she is heading the Department of Human Development.
