This online course has been designed and developed by National Resource Centre of MHRD at Guru Angad Dev Teaching Learning Centre, a centre under PMMMNMTT scheme of MHRD, Govt. of India at SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi with the help of expertise from all over the country.  The NRC of Chemistry is guided by Academic Council consisting of eminent Chemist from the leading institutes of the country.
This is a Refresher Course for Chemistry Teachers teaching in Higher Education Institutions at Under-Graduate and post-Graduate level. As per MHRD & UGC, this will be treated equivalent to face-to-face Refresher Course in Chemistry as required under Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) of UGC.
This course has been designed to provide insight into a variety of interesting and meaningful chemistry topics as modules of different types, so that it is useful for all the chemistry teachers irrespective of their specializations. 
The different type of modules covered in this course have been categorized based on the type their content like ChemNews module which will bring the latest news from the world of chemistry. ChemTalks focus on the Latest Developments as well as new and emerging areas of Chemistry. The ChemSafeLabs modules will emphasize various measures to prevent  accidents in chemistry labs. ChemNobelLaureate will take you down the memory lane to discuss the life and contributions of Ernest Rutherford.  ChemPedagogy modules will highlight on improving curriculum development and question paper setting. ChemSimplified aims to simplify some difficult concepts of chemistry. ChemICTTools focus on ICT tools which can be embraced by chemistry teachers. To commemorate 150th anniversary of periodic table in 2019, one module is entitled ChemHistory.  In ChemError module, emphasis will be on the correct usage of SI units and their recently modified definitions. ChemIndustry modules will focus on the Pharmaceutical industry and career options for chemistry students. ChemMisconceptions will try to clarify some chemistry misconceptions. ChemApplications modules will provide some real life examples to make chemistry teaching interesting in the classrooms. ChemQuest will make you learn chemistry through question and answers in an exciting manner.
The course has highly multimedia enriched videos along with text, reading material, references and online Quizzes.

Instructor bio


      Dr. (Mrs.) Vimal Rarh


Dr Vimal Rarh is a Senior Chemistry Faculty at SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi. She is one of the leading e-learning experts of India who has made a mark at the national level in various activities such as development of e-content, e-Labs, e-LOs, MOOCs, on-line examination, empowerment of teachers in ICT skills, introduction of newer teaching methodologies etc. not only in chemistry but guided the same for other disciplines as well. Apart from her e-learning expertise, she has her research interest in Forensic Science and Organic Chemistry. She has to her credit many research papers, a patent, books, presentations, projects and invited talks at local, National and International forums. She has also guided Ph.D and M.Phil students. She has authored/co-authored more than 350 modules as e-content in four quadrant format for SWAYAM and other platforms.

She is the project Head and Joint Director of the prestigious “Guru Angad Dev Teaching Learning Centre” of MHRD, Govt. of India, under the Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Training (PMMMNMTT) scheme. Under her leadership more than 6000 teachers across the nation have been trained in the last three years through various workshops/seminars/training programs at GAD-TLC. She has contributed in the curriculum development of newly introduced mandatory one month Faculty Induction Program under the PMMMNMTT scheme of MHRD, Govt. of India for the entire country. She is the Coordinator of National Resource Centre of Chemistry of MHRD, Govt. of India. 

Dr. Rarh is actively involved in policy formulation and implementation through various national level Committees at UGC.  She has been Member of Committee which formulated UGC Regulations for Online Programmes/Courses (2018) and many other Committees at UGC. She is a Governing body/ Advisory committee member at 8 premier autonomous colleges in India as UGC Nominee. In her administrative role and technical coordination at Centre for e-Learning, ePGPathshala projects of UGC in six subjects namely, Chemistry, Commerce, Forensic Science, Economics, Psychology and Business Economics have been successfully completed.  She herself is the Principal Investigator for Chemistry project. Under her able technical and administrative guidance, 42 MOOCs in six subjects have been developed and run successfully two times on SWAYAM portal of Govt. of India. Of these, she has developed 8 MOOCs of Chemistry as PI. 

She is using her expertise of e-learning not only for improving the quality of education but also for social cause. She is Project Head of development of online Course for “Cancer Awareness” for Indian Cancer Society and for development of training e-modules on Forensic Science for Police Training School, Delhi Police.
